Im perplexed and its getting to a stage where I dont understand. I went to my wifes friends place who happens to be from iraq. The windows were wide open and the heating was on full blast apparently to help ventilation. The guy was there with a few of his friends who could speak to me but chose not too. His british born wife explained that he and his friends choose not to speak English as they are too proud of their home land to change. I then found out that all these guys were on benefits and I asked them how they distinguished between asking for help from a country and preserving their 'proudness'. Once this was explained by his otherhalf me and my wife were told we should leave. My wife is annoyed with me and I am left with a feeling of guttedness. I know there are loads of uk born british people exactly the same. I think I am just venting my anger. but I came away the bad person and I have never been out of work in my life and every country I visit I respect the culture and try blend in. Am I bad thinking ill of these people?

Quite a lot of people, when presented with an unpleasant truth about themselves, take great offence since it far easier to become aggressive and intolerant than it is to argue a case that has no merit.

If I were you, I would conclude that your analysis of the situation (as you have presented it) was broadly correct and that your comments were unwelcome because of their truthfulness.
Has anybody paused to think that the reason they are here is because their homes were destroyed by the massive NATO bombardment of Iraq in which Britain and Tony "45 minutes"Blair played a big part ?
If so then who are the bad guys ?
smilingcrow, i do agree with you in the fact that i believe, immigration is allowed, but they should work when they get here or at least do something worthwile like studying. If they come here only for benefits that this is wrong.

great point argorstran, but as usual not many people think of that.
Oh so we have to take immigrants from every country we have ever been at war with and let them live here on benefits for the rest of their lives.

I did not realise that.

What do you mean "take"? I did not say let them live on benefits.
How many people have the gumption to leave their homeland in search of a better life and then when they do find a place of safety suddenly become resigned to a life at the bottom of the heap on benefits?
Isn't it true that refugees aren't allowed to work?
//Isn't it true that refugees aren't allowed to work?//

they should. Otherwise it is not our fault if they come here and take benefits. They should work in some way.
Are you suggesting that they 'do the double', break the law?
no, im suggesting that, as people claim that it is unfair they come here and use our benefits and services without working, i am merely offering a suggestion of, that if the law was to change and they should be able to work this may help.
The problem is not really immigrants it is the huge scale of migration. According to Office of National Statistics figures the UK is experiencing one of the largest mass movements of people in global history see:

http://pol-check.blog...ation-of-britain.html

Although the mass migration was started by Labour in 1997, when they more than doubled the migration rate, the governments of the UK have become addicted to the economic effects of swapping our land for credit:

See UK Housing Crisis http://pol-check.blog...k-housing-crisis.html

Labour's huge increase in migration in 1997 was designed to exacerbate racial tensions, as you would expect from modern postmarxists.
//His british born wife explained that he and his friends choose not to speak English as they are too proud of their home land to change.//

and therein lies the problem. This is not unique to just Iraqis. Until there is some requirement in place for immigrants to respect the new homeland of their choosing, the UK will be a place where even children who are born here won't be able to speak English.
They are so proud of their homeland that they choose not to live there. That tells you all you need to know. Yes we are the softest touch in the world when it come to handing out free money to workshy layabouts.
They chose not to speak to you, which seems odd, and then you challenged them in turn by asking a question which, while perfectly valid in a debate on Question Time or down the pub, might seem a trifle insensitive when you are a guest in someone's house.
Perhaps there's a bit more to this that you've not told us?
