Millions have, literally, as it's worldwide. It's no different to meeting people anywhere else, and the only caution is with people from abroad as the complications involved are major. But I met someone a few miles away and once we met and went out it was irrelevant how we did. It's all the luck of the draw and the internet widens the opportunities to meet as long as you're very careful.
Met my partner on a dating site. Like David H I was lucky as we were not far apart. We have been together for nearly two years. No regrets. Just be carefull though, not everyone is so nice! If chatting try use a webcam rather than pictures. At least then you know what the person looks like. If you want to do further checks, get their address details and confirm useing a site like Directory Enquiries http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/find/ residential/residential_numbers.publisha
best to play it safe and always meet in a neutral, public location! Good luck.

Met my partner online too. Have been amazed at how many negative reactions I have had when I have said where I met him - people assume he must be an axe murderer!!!

We are both fairly shy when it comes to meeting people - especially him - and I know he would have difficulty approaching someone in a social setting.

But online we were able to exchange e-mails and get to know each other in a none threatening way.

The only advice I would give is to plan to meet up fairly quickly - in a neutral place as already advised - as it is very easy to get a false impression of someone online and you hear of people claiming to be 'in love' with someone who they have never met (particularly when they are in another country or the other end of this country and meeting up is less practical). This kind of 'falling in love' gives online dating a bad name. To have a chance of working you need to look for someone fairly close to home and keep an open mind until you have met them in person.

I always say to sceptics - you probably know as much about the person as you would if you met them in a pub or club. You have as much risk of meeting a nutter at your local night spot than online.

I have been with my fella for nearly a year now and am so happy. Without the net we would never have met - so I thank my lucky stars for the internet!!!

yes, my pal wasn't having much luck after being on her own for years and having 3 kids didn't help.. she went out to pubs on the wkd but felt a bit old, so tried an agency which was awful, they seemed to match her up with all the old sad gits that must have been on the books for years.. so.. she bit the bullet and tried online dating,,, sucesss!! we were amazed at how many people got in touch ,, you obviously get quite a few morons,, but a llot of lovelies as well,, most were just in the same position as my friend..she has been with the guy she is with now for over a year.. good luck, it's pretty daunting at first....
I met my husband on a Christian dating site called Fusion101.
www.fusion101.com

We've split now, but it was amicable. I am looking for my next partner online as I have no chance to meet eligible male christians elsewhere.

Good luck!
Well, I can tell yolu two people that I know of- one is my dad who met a girl from arkansas and he was from Wisconsin- and the other is my boyfriends brother-who met a girl locally in the near proximity- they met went on a few dates and have been happy ever since
