A tenant has left owing 2 months rent.
Can I take out a CCJ against a person for whom I do not know a current address?

You have a name of your absconding tenant, therefore you could get a CCJ raised against them, because as you've stated, they've already left, so they're unlikely to pay any outstanding debts to you. However, a CCJ if unpaid after one month is then registered on the Register of CCJ's, which is checked by banks, tenancy agents, building societys & loan companies, which will have a very detrimental effect on your tenants forthcoming lives.

if you don't know where they've gone, there's not much point in getting a ccj against them - or issuing a claim - there's nowhere to serve it on them. you'd be better off asking an enquiry agent to try to locate them...

Thank you all. Yes, my problem is that I do not know where they have gone to, so how to identify the actual person when I have no address.
Also, if they moved again, how would my ccj move with them?

A CCJ is not linked to an address so it matters not how many times they move after.

If you don't know the tenant is now you have no chance.

Depending on how much you are owed and the chance of getting the money back, would it be worth getting a search agent to find them on a no find no fee basis?

Did you try to mitigate your loss in any way by getting a deposit?
