Longterm Sore left arm?

I Woke up 8 months ago with a really sore left arm at the top, went to docs and she gave me ibuprofen and never seemed really bothered, (i h8 going the docs as it is) anyway the ibuprofen never worked and i just always tried exercising it and doing very light weights to try strengthen up the muscles (i presume its some kind of muscle/nerve damage?) it only hurts when i move it certain ways or rotate my arm/lift it in the air as if picking something up.
Anyway the pain has got worse over the last few days and i am now having shooting pains shooting right down my arm, so ive been taking ibufroren and funny enough they are stopping the shooting pains but not stopping the moving pain (as already tried and tested months ago) now i dont fancy going back to the docs as i know they will only refer me to a specialist or fob me off again with pills, would i be ok to go straight up to the hospital as the pain is getting worse and i know that it must be something quite serious for it to be happening this long. If i can go to the hospital, would it be possible to go late at night as its less busy and i will probably get seen quicker rather than wait around? Cheers for any advice. Kev

Google frozen shoulder and see if it fits your symptoms.

No, it is not an Accident OR Emergency.
Late at night you would see a very junior doctor.

A&E is for accident or emergency.........you are neither.
you should go to your GP he can refer you to the right department it is irresponsible to go to a crowded A and E with something like you describe,
rowan......;-)

I don't care who i see, but maybe Ive got more chance of getting some kind of x ray and will be given the correct treatment if i go straight to the hospital? also Ive been getting mild pins and needles in my left hand since this morning so i presume that this is all linked?
I'm with sqad on this one.

I have been at A&E as a genuine emergency and have seen how overwhelmed the staff can get by people who turn up with complaints like yours. See your GP and follow the correct procedure of being referred to a specialist if necessary.

Ok maybe i had better go to my GP then, just worried that there is some kind of nerve/muscle damage that could be restricting the blood flow etc?
You have an acute exacerbation of a chronic condition by the sound of it... thats not even an urgent let alone an emergency. If you are really desperate to be seen in a hurry and you can afford it ask your GP to refer you to a private specialist for the initial consultation and tests expect to pay around £500 for a couple of appointments and scans/xrays
Are your finfgers going blue/whitish and cold is there any new swelling? if so your gp will arrange a more urgent appointment.
Question Author
No, cant see any swelling but getting really pissed off with it now, 8 months its been doing my head in and deciding to get worse this last few days is just depressing me even more, ive been working through the pain barrier all this time and considering that i have always paid rip off taxes and hardly ever use my docs and havent used the hospital since i was a kid, then dont ya think i have a right just to use the hospital this once instead of resorting to private crap when already pay for these sort of sevices? just had enough of the pain now and sorry if i sound like im being ungreatful, thanks for ya replies.
Do you have one of those NHS drop in centres nearby? If you do then give them a ring and ask to be seen. My oh had to do the same recently after he thought he had some glass in his foot, they xrayed him there to check.

Thanks Daffy, Yes i have one not too far from me, good idea, and i shall take a drive there later. Cheers xx
Google frozen shoulder and see if it fits your symptoms.
I hope you get sorted kevo, be careful driving though if your arm is very painful.
puzzled.....he needs to Google two frozen shoulders as it is affecting both arms.....;-)
Perhaps I should read the question properly! Anyway, you can get it in both shoulders at the same time, tho 1 was bad enough.
puzzled........;-)
Question Author
Thanks Daff x it could well be a frozen shoulder but i hope its not as it can last upto 4 years and i wud rather have my left arm off all together than go through this for 4 years, then again maybe not as im left handed!! ha thanks for ya replies folks i will get back to you on the outcome.
