We have a referendum to vote on whether to let all voters decide on who is mayor or leave it as is and let the councillors choose.
Will it make a difference to how much power the Mayor has once in office ?

I have voted to leave it as it is GK (postal vote) because this Lord Mayor will have a lot of power. He will not be like the one we have now who just goes round opening things and giving little speeches. In fact I think you will find that he is completely separate from the Council. He will also have a huge salary, which we will have to pay for from the Council Tax....

Personally I don't think any of them should be paid - it used to be voluntary with just expenses paid but now they get more than lots of people with legitimate jobs and do practically nothing for it. I reckon if it works all right as it is with councillors voting for the Mayor it should be left alone. Sorry I am ranting - but I feel a bit strongly about all the Council Tax we have to pay. stoke is right, a complete waste of money.
