I have found out today that my niece is being christened in June. My issue is that I have no idea what I should wear. Last two formal occasions I went to were funerals so I don't have any suitable smart clothes. I don't want to waste money on stuff I won't wear again (I am a stay at home mam so just wear jeans, etc). The christening is in South Wales and the other females there will be done up to the 9's (very bling, hair done to within an inch of its life, make-up plastered on (but in an over the top way, as opposed to tarty). I don't do skirts although I would do a really, really long one at a push. I really need some help and direction on this one please.

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting the white version of that suit, I couldn't find a way of only showing the darker suit.
Don't forget to practice your disdainful look ... a slight raise of the eyebrows, and a glance down and back up ... for the overdressed relations.
Bling and heavy makeup at a christening......such bad taste.....
Id get a nice maxi skirt with a top tucked in or a shorter top that hangs over. You can wear nice flats underneath then :0) and jazz it up with a big bangle or something!!

And you dont need a hat!! Honest!!! Last christening i wore a maxi dress xxx
Ps the "maxi look" means you can have less fussy hair etc cos its a relaxed look xxx
