Yesterday I went to a new optician and he done a thorough eye test, much more thorough than my last Optician.
He mentioned glaucoma and told me not to worry as it may not be much to worry about. Its just a check up at the hospital, and I will have further tests.

What do you think these tests will be? Should I be worried?

I would be glad that you have had this picked up and are going to have a check up at the hospital. Why not wait to worry until you had the tests.

Hi grasscarp. I'm not really worried , but a bit shocked as I thought my eyes were ok. I'm glad that the optician was so thorough and spent ages with me doing different things
Presumably your optician did the usual pressure test (like a puff of air against your eye) and concluded that the pressure was a little high.
Accurately diagnosing glaucoma is not simple, so there are a number of additional tests that can be performed. None of them is scary!

Here's a list and brief description of each of the tests.

many thanks for link rojash! x
First of all, you have nothing to worry about. My wife recently had some glaucoma tests done, and she was sent for the tests because her sister has glaucoma. The optician said that it could be hereditary. Anyway, back to my wife's tests: she had a "field test", which means that she had to look into a machine, with her chin resting on a support, and the machine had tiny lights inside, but not all of them were lit. She held a switch, and when she saw any of the lights flash she had to press the switch. This is not painful or anything like that, and it's done to check if you can see to the side without turning your head. Another test was where she rested her chin, again, on a support and the doctor used the machine to look inside her eyes. Again, no pain or discomfort. And that was about all. Nothing to worry about there!

many thanks for replies folks, have put my mind to rest now.
I've had the test you mentioned bookbinder, so will just wait and get it all sorted and put it all behind me. Ta muchly x
The hospital tests, as others have said, are lengthy but nothing to worry about. Opticians are, according to mine, obliged to refer people with a pressure over a certain number. I think it was 25 but may now be 21. Twenty years ago my eye pressure was over 30 in both eyes. Hospital test were fine. Every time I have an eye test I have to be referred even though high pressure appears normal for me. My eyes are fine.
I know when the pressure in my eyes goes above 30. The optician says this is impossible and agreed to do a pressure test if I came in saying it was high. We wanted to prove each other wrong so had a bet of a bottle of wine on the results. I enjoyed the wine!

I hate to hear of people with very poor eye sight, must be awfull for them. x
