Last time I bought cartridges I bought the cheaper non-branded ones. The colours weren't as good and they didn't seem to last as long. My computer stated that the cartridge wasn't full!! i've gone back to the HP brand. You can get good offers at amazon (Jersey sales)
No you don't have to buy HP though you will keep getting a message saying its not HP.

However I have used non HP at work and at home and found the results less than satifactory at work, they were new, they produced a lot less copy and also "leaked"

At home I had refills and they lasted about half as long.

I have an Epson printer and if I buy the cartridges from an Epson dealer they cost an arm and a leg. I have bought much cheaper ones over the internet which work pretty well but beware, not all suppliers produce the same standard of replica cartrideges.

It is like everything you get what you pay for . I tried the cheaper brands and no good so I but stick to HP ones
get mine refilled last about half as long but cost £5 a fill so about 1/4 the cost and if theres a problem he refills again for free
nice to see its not just me, everytime i try/use non branded cartridges the quality is pants. I always stick to genuine.
I have an HP printer and buy my cartridges from cartridgepeople.com and never had any problems used them for years.

I agree with fruitypus ^. I get mine refilled by professionals and can do so 4 or 5 times. They use proper compatible ink and should also reset the chip. still half price of new ones.
