My CV is a little bare so could I include working selling tickets for one night as a favour for someone?

why not - call it part time promotional work for community activity or something
Don't put it was just one night on your CV, just state the year. If they ask in interview then they're already suitably impressed with the rest of it and you can be slightly more honest, maybe say it was during July or whatever! Just get the job before you 'fess up
Do some volunteering work. It can be fun! I worked in my local oxfam shop it was good fun. passes the time and gives you a great sense of well-being

I strongly recommend you visit www.ukjobszone.com they have an e-book that shows you "how to find your perfect job in 30 days or less"

They have access to 1000s of vacancies not registered with any recruitment agencies. Their e-book also provides you with clients who are looking to recruit people to start work ASAP.
