What is the best Mouse deterrent? Hell...p!

My VW Golf is left out overnight on a dark country lane. I have recently found out that it is being visited by some pesky varments who have taken to helping themselves to the felt insulation under the car bonnet and the occassional nibble at the wiring. Is there a product on the market that I can leave deposites of, in the affected areas, to scare them away and secure the area.
I don't have access to Lion urine which I'm sure would do the trick.
I don't want to use an electronic repeller which there are hundreds available and my cats only like to catch voles, rabbits and squirrels.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry about this, but I am only just now getting a mouse explosion under control. About eight months ago I noticed plastic bags, clothes, paper, and holes in wood were being gnawed and shredded. It was terrible to pick up something only to have it fall apart and scatter tiny pieces of fabric or plastic or paper, all over the place.
I tried the (humane) advice given by the experts, for over a month. The problem seemed to be getting worse. Then next door got a cat, that made an awful mess in my garden, and often it was smelly. But, my neighbour told me that the cat was bringing home mice, sometimes in two's and three's. I also found some partial carcasses in my garden.
However, even in daylight, I still would often see a mouse dart along the garage or shed or into some flower pots.
So, I reverted to the days of my childhood, when we 'had' to keep the mice and rats under control due to the cattle and crops. I bought six traps.
Sorry, I know it is not an acceptable practice these days, but the 'vermin' were taking over. I used a small dollop of peanut butter, and I was catching several a day, for a week. Then things went quiet, but, I would still trap one every few days.
For the last few weeks, no further mice have been seen or trapped. And the cat seems to be spending a lot of time waiting and watching near the shed and garage. I had mice in the loft, under the stairs, in the shed, and in the garage.
But thankfully, none made it into the house.
However, I am remaining extremely vigilant, as I sure don't want to have to go through that again. It took over six months before I felt I was making any sort of progress.
I didn't enjoy it, but, I know and have seen some of the disease that is spread by mice and rats.
And I am exceedingly grateful that we still have weekly bin collections
