Does anyone know what Steve Pemberton's character's actual job is? He goes through historical cases, but is he a copper? Seems a strange role to have?

No, his title is Archives Historian - or very similar
As far as I can make out, he doesn't get paid for doing it. In the first episode of this series, Phil Davies' character said 'and the best thing is, he'll do it for nothing' when they looked at all the archive stuff to be sorted out and were musing over Pemberton's character doing the job

Thank you OJ :)
He is weird tho' isn't he? I'd hate to be caught in the archiving room with him
He is a bit strange
Would you be normal, stuck in a dimly lit cellar pondering over gruesome murder cases for hours on end? Yes yes I know it's not real. Great actor tho, compare that role to him in Benidorm!
I wouldn't mind being stuck down there with the lovely Rupert! Especially if he kept changing his shirt
With you again lardy!!! we can share Rupert and change his shirts for him - now there's a lovely idea!
