Contact DVLA, do not amend document by yourself.
Why did you give him a refund....once the paperwork is complete and the cash handed over theres no return .Did he not test drive first. You will have to apply for a new v5.......was he bigger than you!!
Indeed I wouldn't have refunded, it's not your fault, nothing wrong with the vehicle. How can you not be able to drive an automatic?? obviously a right twit!
Oh, yes contact DVLA they'll let you have another V5 and probably charge yu for the privelidge
Would have offered to buy it back for £100 less than he paid you. Mind you, I'm stroppy like that with time wasters.
The mind boggles, you have just given some one a free car.
Do "NOT" Tippex, the document.
I have to drive an automatic because my body is broken. It is so easy. Push the pedal on the left to slow down, push the pedal on the right to make more noise. What was this dude's problem? I'd have given him a thick ear.
Sounds like a possible scam to me. Contact DVLA without delay and explain what happened - otherwise the guy may try to claim possession of the vehicle.
yes, some thing sounds 'scammy' to me too...just not sure how...

could it be that you are not allowed to change it - only the name on it can change it....so you would have to give him the document...

does he still have any documentation at all?

i too would not have refunded... if i did he would not have got the price he paid....cheek sod...the end of the road is hardly enough tomake that kind of decision...

could he have done anything to the car? was it out of your sight?...like extract and exchange parts?
that would have been risky of course, the risk that you would not take it back...but still...
there is a phone number for this to be replaced!

and yes, i would have said done deal! x
Some very sound advice on here, there are so many scams about it is difficult to gage sometimes and to me this certainly seems a bit beyond being dodgy. I do like this post though:

'How can you not be able to drive an automatic?? obviously a right twit!'

He was gone no more than 3 minutes when he came back I still have all the reg document it's just all been filled in with his name address and he even signed it but he gave all parts of the document back to me I have contacted the dvla and they are going to send out a new one free of charge. He did test drive it and ask me where the clutch was that alarmed me somewhat

No Toureman he does not have the car for free I still have the car and all of the paperwork it's just an inconvenience now as I have been getting lots of calls for the car but now have to wait for the new registration document before i can sell to a genuine buyer, I don't know what came over me to give him his money back I suppose I was just gobsmacked when he ask where the clutch was and he drove off was gone no more than 5 minutes before he was back on my doorstep asking for his money back.
fruitsalad, did you advertise this car as an automatic ?.
Question Author
Yes tony even wrote automatic in capital letters
Type Your Answer Here...i am amazed he had the nerve to come and ask you! ...

are you sure it is absolutely your car? i know it sounds far fetched but could they have switched plates etc?

its just seems so weird...and i wouldnt put it past some dodgy people to have had a crew round the corner ready to go to work on it - like the guys in the pits at race tracks...

No joko they would have had to be as fast as those blokes in the pits he was only gone 3 minutes anyway good news is received new registration document in post today that must be a record in itself and someone brought said vehicle today and yes they learnt to drive in a automatic so alls well that ends well. Thanks for all the comments
Glad it turned out OK in the end !
