We, the general public, are continually bombarded by politians on how we should live, in particular at the moment with refgrd to alcohol. We are showing scenes of violence on our street and told of the cost of policing and to the NHS which is then followed up by Govenrment bodies telling us what we should do.

And now we get this, Eric Joyce allegedly headbutting another member of parliament in the bar (no doubt a subsidesed bar that we the tax payer are told we should not enjoy the likes of)

Should these people put their own house in oprder first before adopting the moral high ground to the rest of this.

I am not invoking a party debate here, I think it is right across the spectrum of all of them.

Liars, cheats, thugs, fraudsters - all to be found in the Commons.

They should indeed practise what they preach.
Perhaps we, the general public, should wait until the facts are known and not judge things on headlines.
Well said, canary, couldn't have put it better myself.
WE aren't showing scenes of violence on our streets, it's the media.
"I think it is right across the spectrum of all of them"?..do you know "Tautology"?

...and the Tories are particularly out-of-touch with the populace..these privileged idiots, neither know nor care how "the other 88/100 live"!!
The thing that surprised me was" in one of the several bars", how many bars do they have and are they all subsidised by the tax payer ?

"PRIVILEGED IDIOTS" Lefty 'talk, talk' again, how they hate it when one of theirs is shown for what they are.

And when are some on the Left going to realise that one doesn't necessary have to be privileged, or an idiot, to be a Tory.

It's all a matter of personal choice, there are many 'Working & Middle Class' persons that are Tories, just as one doesn't necessary have to be 'Working Class' to vote Labour.
I know plenty of people who vote Tory who have neither privileged backgrounds nor privileged lifestyles - just ordinary people.

Perhaps they should consider having more exclusive bars, perhaps then it would keep the 'riff-raff' out.
Sadly some posters have ignored the implicit plea of the OP not to involve party lines, and caused this thread to descend into the usual slanging match. What a pity the original "put your own house in order" theme was abandoned so quickly.
Would the 'riff raff' include those who fiddled their expenses ?
yes,indeed,vulcan..about 7 or 8 bars..sundry Dining rooms,Canteen..all subsidised..is it only recently in a refurb/reshuffle of HOP,that smoking was stopped in the bars?

What fun would that be?

Some MPs got p1ssed and started a punch up. One of them said 'Come on then, who f*kin wants some? I'll take you all on'.
Someone else said 'Come on we've all had a drink', and one of the women was heard screaming 'Leave it John!, he's not F*kin worth it!'. While trying to restrain John Prescott. There were also shouts of 'He glassed me!, he glassed me!'

I bet that's what happened.
You do get the sense that a lot of MPs, regardless of their place on the political spectrum, left to right, have developed a sense of entitlement and self- esteem bordering on the smug. Not so long ago I was reading an article about the MPs having access to a subsidised restaurant - and then at least one of them moaning that his chips were presented in a stack on his plate, rather than in as a side dish, or another complaining that their eggs benedict was "too runny".

Its a small, insular and privileged world that the MPs inhabit, which might in part explain how they can act so stupidly or thoughtlessly on occasions like these.
Apparently the violence erupted when someone spilled Eric Joyces pint of Top Totty.
Joyce has been charged with three charges of common assault.
That stops any jury trial, so we get won't the opinion of 12 of his fellow citizens after a trial, which is probably just as well for him and for the taxpayer . He'll probably plead guilty at the outset rather than trying to persuade an experienced bench or a Deputy Judge that he should be acquitted
Can't really see that one drunk brawler stands for the whole 630 or so and represents 'these people'.
how many bars? There are the best part of 5,000 people working there - how many pubs would you expect in a town that size? More than one, anyway.

Not sure why they should be subsidised, though.
scottish labour head buts english tory. priceless :)
Will this little incident speed up the end of this "cheap booze " trade as the goverment watchdog has advised.
