Laptop keyboard cable...can i trim it slightly...?

i have just replaced a component on my laptop but when i reassembled it, the keyboard doesn't work properly - i have checked all other connections and i suspect it is down to the fact that when a pal of mine did some work on it he snapped the little black plastic clip to hold it in place...
i can still use the clip - but in 3 parts - and i did that and it was fine, however this time, as it is so awkward to slot in, i used a blunt blade to push it in - as i did the last time...however this time, i think i may have slipped and pierced the cable slightly...

i am going to reopen and have another check, but could i just trim the tip of the cable off? say 2 mm or something...or will that wreck it?

there is no connector - its just a length of cable.

thanks

No.

The cable is insulated with bared parts on the end, if you cut the end off there will be nothing for it to make contact to.
