Thanks Emsey2 for replying and admitting. I had one removed once because I asked shall we report...... I think he/she took it badly that I had reported him/her, but there was more than me who did. Hope you can understand all that waffle!!

I understand it Jude.
I think if enough people report it, it vanishes at once - not banned, just suspended by robots till AB Ed can review it. If she thinks it's okay it goes back on site.

Not always quickly at all. As was proven during the discussion about fireworks, and when certain homophobic comments appeared on the site reasonably recently.

It seems that when there is a lot of activity on the site, ABE simply doesn't have the time/enough monks to get through all the reports and decide what to do.

I understand the situation, but it does seem a shame sometimes. Still, can't be helped, unless we paid to subscribe and that created enough money for a Sub-Editor/ABE's PA.

Thanks to all who answered!
If an answer is reported, that just means that a message gets sent to the editor to tell him that someone has reported an answer. It therefore depends on how long it is before the editor gets the message and is then able to delete it. e.g. over a weekend or overnight. If it happens during the daytime then the Editor might get to it within minutes.
