trt.....they can get them done at the doctors without their parents permission.
Is that what I said ummmm? I had my daughter at 19. I had a job. what's your point? That parents don't use the TV as a free babysitter? Get real.
Question Author
I am real. You need to get optimistic...looking at the world with such a negative view point, can't be good for you.
I'm not pessimistic, neither am I optimistic - just realistic.
Question Author
It's not realistic to state that parents use the TV as a babysitter, unless you actually know all these parents personally.
Given that my own mum was totally useless at the whole sex/"girl" stuff I determined that I wouldn't be that way with my daughter. If she asked a question I answered it, I taught her to respect herself enough not to give in to peer pressure the "you would if you loved me" caper. She grew up informed and aware of her options and the consequences of her actions. Sadly a lot of teenagers these days feel they cannot talk to their parents about this sort of stuff, but if a child is under the age of consent the parents ought to be informed. I certainly would want to know what was happening to my daughter, and would wonder where I'd gone wrong if she couldn't discuss it with me first.
Exactly Ummmm! There's nothing inherently bad in having a baby in your teens.

nungate - to you not think it was worse years ago when sex was a real taboo subject?
Ummmm, Sex is no longer a taboo subject these days but we seem to have swung from one extreme to the other maybe.
Im for it...i put myself on pill at 15 with my friend...x
I have just had my implant taken out this evening after only having it for 8 months and with all the side effects i think these girls will regret it too! and it was incredibly painful and took half an hour of pulling and pushing by the doctor to get it out!

But on the talking to your mother first point my mother is incredibly shy and prudish about the subject probably through how her mother responded to questions so when i was growing up i tried to ask but got no where therefore you have to do your own research whatever way is appropriate therefore my mother doesn't even know i am using birthcontrol doubt she knows im even sexually active! although at my age now it doesn't concern her anyway if i get pregnant i would have to deal with it!
Hi ummm,

I did know that under 16s can have this procedure at the doctors without the parents permission but, didn't realise a 13 year old could have it?

Who actually gives these girls the implant, is it a school nurse and if so what would happen if the girl had a reaction or blood poisoning, who would be to blame?
Excuse me. The age of consent for sexual intercourse is 16. In all my years of teaching excluded children (quite a few because of pregnancy) not one partner of the girl concerned was prosecuted. Usually a male over 18.
A contraceptive implant without parental consent at 13 is an invitation for predatory males who do not support their victims. (Yes I did think about the word before typing it).
How about an injection or implant to sexually castrate 13 year old males?
Question Author
trt - I had my implant put in by a doctor. Had it taken out 4 years later by a doctor.

Leapers, I had no side effects to it.

The age of consent is to protect the young. If they are in the same age group nothing will be done about a sexual relationship.
I would agree with it. There was a girl at my school who got pregnant at 13. I didn't even know what sex was until we found out she was pregnant and everyone was gossiping about it. My sheltered life was shattered at that point...

I know of someone who had their second child at 14. She made it into The Sun, so people must still find it shocking enough to by the paper.
Daisy you are implying that all 13 year old lads are culprits and all 13 year old girls are victims. For a teacher that shows a remarkable lack of understanding and if I may say considerable naievete.
