My OH is going to see his GP tomorrow because he has found a lump in the lower part of his left breast. It is approx 2inches by 1 inch. Apart from the obvious what else could it be? I want his GP to send him for mammogram etc but my OH is quite timid and laid back and will probably just accept what the GP says! Is it prorocol for male breast lumps to be checked out?

I would say yes, it should be - men do get breast cancer. Fingers crossed for your OH that it's "just a lump".
Not good protocol to ignore stuff. You feel such a fool if anything turns out to be wrong and you've left it too late.

Possibly a cyst or other benign lump. Worth checking though.
A male relative of mine had a breast lump. He was scared to go to the Dr for months. When he did, it turned out to be a perfectly benign and easily dealt with lipoma...a fatty lump.
Good luck at the Doc tomorrow.
He should most definitely get it checked as soon as possible. It may be nothing, in which case no need to worry, or it could indeed be cancer, in which case the sooner it dealt with the better. If he leaves too long and it IS cancer, then he could be leaving it too late.
I am not sure that a mammogram would have much to offer.......if anything.

Almost certainly not cancer........but needs to see his GP re excision biopsy of the lump.
