This one has got us flummoxed! (Mind you, I am doing 4 other things at the same time). This is the exact wording of the question

"Which amounts up to £1 cannot be paid exactly with fewer than six coins?"

Can someone help please? I'm feeling a bit thick tonight.

lol, thanks all, glad it's not just me. I think we will write in his homework diary that child and adults both struggled so if they could book us in for extra maths lessons that would be appreciated!!

Why is it I can work out inheritance tax with double grossing up yet a child's homework makes me feel completely inadequate?!
50p + 20p +10p + 5p +2p + 1p = 88p = Voila!
But that isn't the only solution, tenrec
factor 30 - it could be 1p x6 = 6p!!!!
Oh no it couldn't. I'm talking rubbish!
Name another one Factor 30.
89p?
Hmm, point taken!

lol, you have all made me feel so much better!
I don't get it at all - I would send the sheet back with a comment about it being badly worded (bet it is a photocopied sheet that the teacher hasn't checked to see if the wording is clear).
Typical, boxy ---- that'll be teachers pet again. ;-0)
Give em a £1 coin and wait for change
Why is this post continuing ?
The question is pretty straightforward, and frankly, pretty simple too.
Boxtops has already given the correct, complete answer.
Why are people continuing with it ?
I don't know nescio.......oh sorry.
What age group is the question for?

If I had to answer it I would just sit down with a big bit of paper and start at 1p
