I have just watched Eastenders and discovered that Nana Moon only had one child (Alfie's dad) before her husband was killed. In that case, how are Jake and Danny Moon related to Alfie? I always thought they were cousins (they call her Nana too) but they can't be if Alfie's dad had no brothers or sisters.

Well they are called Moon as well so if they were Alfie's mums nephews, they wouldn't be Moons.

It's ok - I've just found the Moon family tree on the BBC website!

Nanas husband, William had a brother called John. Jake and Danny are his grandsons. Although Nana quite obviously isn't their Nana so they shouldn't call her that (it confuses me!!)

Snap ... I found a sight saying they are second cousins...but second cousins share a set of great grand parents???

I'm off for a lie down in a darkened room lol

So what is the relationship between Danny & Jake and Alfie?

What's the difference between 2nd cousins, half cousins & cousins once or twice removed as a by the bye? I can't think where else to post this Q.

First cousins are people who have the same grandparents but not the same parents
Second cousins are people who have the same great-grandparents but not the same grandparents
Third cousins are people who have the same great-great-grandparents but not the same great-grandparents etc.

A first cousin once removed is the child of a first cousin, or the parent of a second cousin.
(For example, Lord Lichfield was the first cousin once removed of the Queen because he is the son of the Queen's first cousin)

A first cousin twice removed is the grandchild of a first cousin, or the grandparent of a third cousin. etc.

Remove the lot of 'em I say!!!

I think maybe they just call her nana because everyone in eastenders does.

Oh thanks god. I just posted this exact same question on CB and someone sent me to this thread. I can sleep now. Lol. It was bugging me that I didn't know. I thought maybe the BBC had made a mistake. Thanks CheekyChops.
