In a confidential letter to fellow Ministers, obtained by The Guardian,Michael Gove has floated the proposal of presenting the Queen,on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, with a brand new Royal Yacht. Is this a "Grand gesture"too far,or a fitting gift from a grateful nation?

the queen has already been offered a floating carpark for the jubilee, and i would have thought that would do.

No she should not have it

We are broke
/// oh come on AOG that was not what gromit meant & you know it too. ///

/// Come off it, AOG, it was actually an amusing remark..... ///

Amazing, absolutely amazing, if similar remarks had been said by some media celebrity, it would have been all over the headlines and there would have been an almighty outcry for that person to be sacked, and rightly so.

And if I was to have made such a 'humorous' remark regarding someone from the ethnic minorities or the Gay community, the answerbank jackal pack would be crying for my blood along with their chants of racist, homophobic etc etc.

The earlier post from Gromit that I was referring to was as follows:

/// Let's just have the Queen shot before the summer and save a few pennies. ///

Humorous? NO, NO, NO

Sick, offensive and bordering on treasonable? YES
The queen's just as greedy as Worrall Thompson. The more they have, the more they want and they don't care how they get it.
the queen's greedy? The one who goes round at night switching off the lights at Buck House? I don't think so. She grew up in wartime, remember.

Her descendants on the other hand did not...
//Let's just have the Queen shot before the summer and save a few pennies//

But, Gromit, we would end up with that donkey, the FA Cup look alike, Charles, on the throne.....
She hasn't resorted to shoplifting though, jno, unlike the Worrell.

Not unless the joke is true; Philip perhaps,..... "My husband and I are going into the Iron and Steel business. I will do the Ironing and Philip, the Stealing"
Having to fork out of the barge upgrade so Londoners can see her on the Thames. All the pomp that lined up in the next 12 months, surely not another Royal Yacht. Couple of weeks ago we moved the old one in Leith only for water to get into it. Some royal party have left a door open, think they might have been in Italy by the looks of it ?
I just want to point out something here - the man who finds Gromit's joke offensive recently wrote that black men beat up their white girlfriends more frequently than white men beat their white girlfriends.

So....if anyone is looking for a large pinch of salt with which to read his outrage, may I suggest Maldon Sea Salt over Saxa table salt. It's much better on the palate.
She's rich enough to buy her own b****y yacht if she wants one.
To all those making un-funny remarks regarding the stricken cruise ship, I pass on the latest news:

/// Hope fades for 16 still missing with search suspended as stricken cruise ship slips into the sea ///

I hope that makes you feel ashamed of yourselves?
I know we're all supposed to be in the middle of a recession and everything (not sure how many c's are in the word recession and can't be bothered to look it up), but I see no problem with the nation buying the Queen a boat for the jubilee.

The only question I have is, how on earth can they build it in time???
Just to put it into context, in an earlier thread, AOG was whinging about having to spend £100million on security for the Queen's Jubilee. I remarked 'have her shot and save the money' not out of malice to her Majesty, but as a flippant solution to the unavoidable fact that, come what may, the £100million will have to be spent.

I have also been informed that Captain Poseidon is currently unavailable for any Yachting employment.
Apparently it's going to be privately funded, so it could end up with 'McDonalds - one's loving it' painted down the side or something.
Gove's from a different galaxy - never mind planet - from the rest of us.

Dave"We"re all in this together"Cameron thinks the Royal Yacht is an "Excellent Idea"...Future Knighthoods all round!

/// Mr Cameron has refused to commit any public money to the plan to build an £80m ship ///
What ??? are you serious ???...
Dont people read stories fully? It will be privately funded so what does it matter to anyone else if one is built? Some people are so thick. I for one think it is an excellent idea, it was a big mistake to get rid of the last one.
