Urine Infection - Male

Apparently urine infections in young men are quite rare. Do you know anyone who's had one and what there symptoms were? My husband has to take a sample in tomorrow, weeing umpteen times a day - about 12 times or more. He doesn't have any pain or feel unwell in that way at all.
He had a couple of spots of blood in his boxers yesterday but nothing today.
Doc doesn't think it's a urine infection but needs to rule it out, she thinks it's more likely to be part of a neurological problem. Just as well he's seeing a neuro-urologist next week!

Kidneys? Maybe he should do a blood test as well, looking for creatinine. If they do a urine test, they will test for white blood cells, red blood cells, and proteins. I've had proteins, red blood cells and white blood cells in urine for several decades, on and off, but although the levels are often higher than normal, my doctors can't find a cause, so they just keep monitoring. Don't worry too much!
Just read the checklist! I failed to mention that he has started leaking a little bit. Sometimes he'll have a huge wee and then as soon as he stands up, he can dribble a bit and it can happen before. It's obviously distressing and because he's quite young. He has an auto-immune disease and has been tested for MS but it wasn't diagnosed as he only had high protein level in lumbar puncture. He gets a lot of the symptoms of MS and unfortunately, weeing a lot and dribbles/leakages are part of that. In one way I'm hoping it's an infection and not something that he's got to live with.

Hi MissCommando and although urine infections in young men are rare they are def on the increase and like us women they do wee a lot.
The samples going in tomorow and the results will be back soon, and we do worry when there's blood my partner had these symptoms but routine check showed no probs.

He may need a camera to be inserted in his uretha to check for internal problems especially as blood has been spotted.
He seems a bit young for prostrate troubles.
Although the urge is for him to drink less liquids it usually pays to take in extra (not booze) to flush out the kidneys. You never know but stones can get lodged in the penis so they will check for all the likely problems next week.

Urinary infections in young men are not rare.....and are almost always due to STD's. The symptoms are increasing increasing need to pass water, pain, urgency and maybe dribbling.
I know the history of your husband very well and his urinary problem is almost certainly due to the inability of his bladder to completely empty and this "residual" urine is a prime target for infection.
You doctor wants to rule out this residual urine as a source of infection as the normal symptoms of urinary infections in your husband's case do not apply.
