Does this mean that "The Labour paradise" of paying people not to work causes SOME (not the majority) to become criminals?

Or is it the huge subsidy that allows the free time to prey on hard working others.

Maybe abolishing long term unemployment benefit for those who commit crime might encourage some of thise vriminals to work?

maybe it may make them go out and rob more and maybe just maybe mug a few more old ladies

with the tories in power should that not be "The Tory paradise" of paying people not to work

do you work ? if the answer is yes and people do so well out of work why don't you try it ?
To work at being criminals you mean?
DF, hasn't that been the Labour mantra, give the unemployable money, wouldn't want them to be left out.
Nothing new in that report, by the way it says 38% have been convicted OR cautioned in the last 2 years.I would imagine that is not a lot higher than the population in general. Then surpirise surprise it goes on to say 80% of those released from prison are still unemployed after 2 years.
Who would have thought that !
In a time of high unemployment who would you choose employ a person with a 'record' or someone who was 'clear'?
All this proves is that once you have a crimnl record getting a job as even harder than for the rest of us, blindingly obvious I would have thought.
Cutting benefit for anyone with a criminal record would have one very obvious result and you don't need me to tell you what that would be.

Just think its time that people who work should stop subsidising those who are a grave nuisance.

Sorry got to go as I need to go to work shortly, but will be back home at 18.30 after an eight hour day!

If my tax is going to be spent why not the sick or old rather than the feckless?
Well there are 20,000 ex servicemen with criminal records - they make 10% of the prison population so you'll have the "military wives" on your back

Do you suppose this means the "Tory Paradise" of our brave lads fighting for their country causes criminality too?

Just stop paying unemployment to people who have committed crimes in the last two years.

That would be my suggestion?

Do you have a better one?

a, go in a corner and starve to death
b, commit a crime and try to get some money or food
What about their famillies David? - the ones who are not criminals

Or do you believe that a 2 year old should be punished because her father has a criminal record?
" cautioned or convicted" in the last 10 years of what ?
parking on a double- yellow ? speeding ? arson in the naval dockyards ?
As we all know statistics are there to be manipulated...
This is a non-story if ever there was one, but it captures the mood of the time: selfish and holier-than-thou. I thought the Daily Telegraph was better than that (in my naivety)
Another newspaper trying to spread hatred of the unemployed.

And idiot Britain doesn't half lap it up!
True Mark!

I can only hope that those who are being so nasty now never find themselves unemployed and trying to live on the pittance that is J.S.A.
-- answer removed --
If one third of the unemployed are convicted criminals then two thirds must be in full time employment. Let's make everyone unemployed in that case, that should cut down the crime rate...
I like your thinking, squarebear - you're not David Cameron, by any chance?
Hehe! Just trying to lighten the mood.
