My Vectra boot lock has started to make a sort of whirring / grating noise each time I fully open the boot. Has anyone else had a similar problem or has any ideas about a simple solution?

Many thanks and Happy Christmas

I think you might have to replace the actuator .. there is usually a motor/rack design motor to operate the lock.
There is a chance it has dried up .. try getting to it and 'injecting' some silicon grease into the mechanism if poss.
In the last fortnight or so, when I open my Veccy's tailgate the button sticks in. I've tried oiling it and spraying WD40 but this doesn't work. I can only imagine there is a spring somewhere that isn't as strong as it should be.

I free the button up by giving the chrome plate next to it a big wallop. Sometimes it can take three wallops to free it up. I suppose soon enough I'll have to replace it but in the meantime I'm stopping like Fred Flintstone at amber traffic lights in an effort to get the guy behind to replace it on his insurance.
It is the plastic body for the barrel shrinking/expanding until it sticks.
You can often fix by stripping down and rebuilding.

Thanks for the advice - it looks like it is either expensive or brute force and ignorance!
