injury to coccyx

I fell down the stairs a week ago....was told i may have fractured my coccyx or it may be badly bruised...either way there is nothing to be done except take pain relief...

Has anyone else had this,,,,,? how long did it take to be able to sit, walk, bend etc

very painful, when sitting use a pillow or a rubber ring, i may ease the pain. good luck.

i dont think i will ask on this site any more....
i thought this was a medical section and i would get proper advice or learn from anyone who has had a simliar accident..not walk into arguements between various members...

its not a medical section nfb. but it can be helpful , when other abers may have had a similar experience as yours.. medical section is NHS 24, hope you feel better soon.

Yes been there having fallen over coming down a crag in the lake district. It was 2 weeks after my friend had injured her coccyx. The Dr had already advised her that he would not send her to hospital as in this type of injury the Xray was more dangerous than the injury as there was nothing he could do even if it was broken. Hence I didn't bother going. It lasted a couple of months, took some painkillers, and tried a freeze gel from pharmacist, but found the best thing was an oil from Mother Earth containing arnica. It really eased after being massaged in despite my scepticism.

Was just going to sympathise and say that I also broke my coccyx bone a few years ago. I still have to sit on a cushion with a hole cut out the back of it to allow no pressure on the coccyx. (Ebay-about £14).

It's painful, I had two weeks off work as I have a physical job and was constantly on painkillers.

It's more common than people think and the pain/discomfort can last a long time. I hope she finds relief soon.

My daughter damaged her coccyx which did not heal despite treatment .
Eventually it was surgically removed but it remained painful for many weeks.
She was given heat treatment for several weeks but it didn't improve but then one nurse said she believed heat treatment for a damaged or removed coccyx was wrong and that the reverse was needed . Ice packs ! That worked within a mattter of days and after a fortnight she was back to normal and has not had any trouble since. That was 30 years ago.
