from memory, the Latin American states were trying to escape colonial masters; the French were trying to get rid of their own upper class, which is quite a difference.

Didn't you get taught about this, so you can do your homework yourself? I too would have to google the answers, it's not so difficult, then you can reference the web pages in your reply.
