It suddenly shrunk itself so that everything is stretched out horizontally and kind of squashed vertically. I opened the screen resolution properties but I don't have a clue how to fix it! Can anybody help please? :(

Control Panel/Display/Settings tab ..

What does it show screen size?

Try changing to 1280x1024 for a start and ok'ing it.
Look the same as original?

Maybe you have a settings shortcut running in system tray you accidentally clicked on?

I finally figured out the settings - no need for anyone to give an answer, thanx! If anyone else is struggling with this - I set the resolution to 1024x600 - this fixed the "stretched out" look of everything on the screen. :)
In addition to above...

On modern systems and as long as the correct display drivers are installed you can just turn the resolution up to the maximum available setting and it will be the correct one...

If it's not and the display goes out of range (so you can see nothing) just hit escape or wait 15sec and it will revert back to whatever you started on.
Never mind then :)

Hi AlBags, I only saw your post after posting mine a few seconds ago. You are probably right, there must be a shortcut key that I accidently pressed. So relieved that I managed to get it right! :) (Wish I knew what the shortcut is...)

Thanks ChuckFickens! Appreciate your post. :)
Hi

You don't need a shortcut for changing graphics in the system tray.
You can open it and look for an entry that says something like .. 'show in tray' or 'enable quick-something or other' in system tray. Then uncheck it. Good for finger trouble .. good for system resources!

I have nothing in the system tray indicating screen res. It must have been a key on the keyboard or a combination of keys that I pressed - it happened while I was typing a document in Ms Word.
OK .. Yes .. Keyboard .. It can be done.
