I was just wondering...................you often see people who have lost a large amount of weight with loose folds of skin which have to be surgically removed - does this occur most often when there has been a sudden, dramatic loss of weight; ie meal replacement diets and very low calorie diets? If you were to lose weight over a long time i(the recommened 2lb a week), do you still get the loose skin, or can the skin elasticity manage better?

I think part of it depends on how much weight is lost. The skin only has so much elasticity so if you lose a large amount of weight the skin will never be able to 'shrink' back to how it should be.
I think it also depends on your age. The younger you are the more elasticity your skin has.
Think it also depends on how old a person is as skin loses its elasticity with age. Have been told that women who have had children also find it difficult to get rid of loose skin other than surgically.
