Since my awful crash, the insurance have paid me for my car, and given me 48 hours to buy another, and they are taking my hire car away. How can i possibly buy a car within 48 hours, with so little money? have i got rights? what can i do to keep the hire car for longer, until i buy one, maybe a few weeks?. i'm so stressed with all this.

Don't accept their offer Rozia. They will revise it and give you a bit more. But they will then still want the hire car back in a few days time.
did you not agree the figure with them?
Standard practice I'm afraid.... they have fulfilled their obligations by putting you back in the same financial position. You could claim from the other party's insurers for loss of use/inconvenience if they were to blame, but I don't think they would entertain 'a few weeks'...
mrsm had her car written off but fortunatley she had ''gold cover'' on her insurance, however, once the settlement for her car had been agreed they came for the hire car 7 days after the cheque had been issued, yes rozia it is very stressful especially if the accident wasnt your fault..i do sympathise with you as i saw how stressed mrsm was and it is worse if you rely on your car for work...
if you think the car is worth more then get all your info together and try and get them to up the offer. You should be aware how long it will take to replace the car if you are looking about for a replacement cost anyway.

you could always pay for a hire car yourself in meantime. Or have you got legal over or any extra on your insurance that will claim your extra expense on the person who caused the accident?
