The most useful gadgets I have are one of those soup-making wands that you stick in the pan and whizz round - works for whipping cream as well; an electric coffee grinder which is brilliant for making breadcrumbs and grinding spices; and a moulinex 'julienne' vegetable shredder, hand operated simple technology I bought in France. I have a blender that I rarely use, find it easier to just get on with the job. i find the ones that have atrillion attachments are the least useful, just become a cupboard full of bits of plastic and metal. Nice big mixing bowl and a range of spoons and palette knoives does it nicely.
Isn't a processor just a mixer with added functionality ? I always assumed that was the case.
If you like baking then a food mixer is probably better. And I'd recommend Kenwood over KitchenAid. You can get various attachments for Kenwood that will allow you to blend and, in small, quantities chop and blitz.

If you want to do general food prep, chopping, blitzing etc then I'd recommend a food processor. You can make cakes, pastry and whip cream egg whites but the whipping function isn't as good as it cannot draw in as much air as a mixer. Magimix is without doubt the best, it's also on the pricier end of the scale but it will last a very long time.
More baking, bread, pastry than other things - get mixer.
More "other things" than baking - get processor.
and Which? agrees with Ecclescake- Kenwood and Magimix, respectively.
I love my Magimix! Used my nan's old Kenwood mixer for years and it was great, but the Magimix is so much more versatile - highly recommend!
