I have posted this question under the Home and Garden category, but it could be that this one is more appropriate.
Good afternoon, does anybody know about bananas? Recently I have found that quite a lot of the bananas that we buy have a black core running through them from top to bottom, the rest of the banana outside of this core is edible and tastes quite normal. Can anybody tell me what this is, and if it is harmful when eaten?

It will be seeds. I too have noticed that some are a bit more crunchy than others which is probably down to the variety.

Hawkwalk, thank you for your response, I am inclined to think that you are right, judging by the look of the "core". I live in Cyprus so it tends to be only the Cypriot variety that we buy.
Thanks again.
