The benefit system is not generous to people who claim fairly, Income support is only £67.50 per week for those over 25, and this is for everything except housing. The problem is with people who abuse the system by making false claims or hiding assets.

"That link is for income based JSA, not means tested JSA"
isn't that the same thing?
It is - the other is 'Contribution based'
hc4361 >> I suggest your small pension isn't all that small, Dr Filth. <<

thing is hc i paid in for 28 years at shift rate to get it so i am not able to claim anything my mate on the other hand gets the £60 a week +rent paint, poll tax and he has not worked for years

who is better off him for not working or me for working, he does a few hours on the side cash in hand me unable to do anything
however, you are getting some benefit and not working (i presume because you can't).
As said before the conservatives want to make it so people are always better off working
bednobs if i could do what my old workmate does i would gladly do it so as i could stay away from the dwp
but seeing as i can't walk to the end of the street i don't think they would want me delivering papers
disability benefits and claims for multiple children (whether either are real or imaginary) soon bump this up!

BUT i agree, legal claims for simple unemployment nefits are really not enough to live on! i certainly would not 'choose' to claim this instead of working, and feel lucky i don't have to ATM!

i think people who reckon its an easy life must either work AND claim it or are criminals too!
if you were in your workmate's position, you would not be staying away from the dwp as he gets all the benefits
when i said papers i was talking about this person who i mentioned earlier on

>> labour changed some rules in 2002 0r 2004 so if you become ill and have payed into a private company pension they take money off you

if i get a £10 rise in pension the dwp take £5 off their payment to me

if i would have played on the sick when i first had problems instead of trying to work i would get the full incapacity payment

one near me just gave up and instead of getting £20 odd he does a couple of paper rounds

when i see these stories in the paper i just laugh as i know a few who have lots of trouble from the dwp

the one who gets the benefits is not on the sick just out of work
we let our room out to a single mum after her housing benefit is taken out she receives £140 week benefits all she has to do is buy food for her and baby.it leaves her with nearly £1oo weekly to play with .She doesnt need to go to work.
hannah, its not like that for most.
