My sons girlfriend thought she was pregnant but it turns out she doesn't have a period when she has her "rest" week from taking the contraceptive pill.I have never heard of this happening before.Incidentally she started taking the pill three months ago.Any ideas on this anyone please?

The only time you don't get a period with the pill, is when you take the mini-pill, which is continuous, so no rest days.
She should see her doctor.
Also, do you know which pill it is?

I don't know which pill it is but I do know its not the mini-pill.Apparently she saw the doctor who said that she is one of 10 % of women who don't have a period whilst taking the pill.
Well, if her doctor is satisfied with it, then I guess that's ok. I know that the pill ' Microgynon 30' is known for this, so maybe it's that one.
I wouldn't like this, because surely you'd worry every month if you were pregnant? After all, the pill isn't 100% effective. Also, not wanting to be depressing or anything, but abnormal periods can be a sign of other "issues", so not having one could make spotting any future problems difficult.
If it were me, I'd probably change to a different pill.

Mm thats what I thought,If nothing changes I suppose she will have to do pregnancy tests regularly or as you say change the brand.
Sod having to do pregnancy tests on a regular bases, I'd be constantly worried!

Me too, mind you it has its plus points I suppose! Personally I can't wait for mine to finish with the problems i'm having being on the cusp of the menopause.....
Oh, I know what you mean! I'm on the mini-pill, so don't have that problem at all! Roll on the menopause, that's what I say! :))
I never had a period when I was on the pill (microgynon for about 11 years). Never thought anything of it! Sailed through the menopause. I don't know if the two are connected?
Progesterone only contraceptive pills are known to cause absent periods in a percentage of cases.

The "Minipill" is a progesterone only pill.
Yes I was very irregular on Microgynon. Now on the mini pill. As flip says it might benefit her to change pills.
