My husband had a letter from the Doctor's surgery this morning which said the Doctor had asked him to come in for a repeat fasting blood test. He had one done last Tuesday. Of course, one can't phone now until Monday to ask the reason why. I would be most grateful if someone might be able to offer a suggestion why this would be necessary. I had one done at the same time, and I do not need to return. A weekend is a long time to be concerned. Many thanks.

I would have thought that one of the previous results were equivocal and a repeat test was needed...........a common and sensible situation.
I was asked to repeat a similar test a few years ago, and the doctor actually admitted that the results had been lost in Cardiff......
I live in York.....!?
my experience of repeat blood testing is that it is very often a lab problem...the blood wasn't treated properly or was left too long before being delivered to the lab or there was insufficient in the vial.
I'd agree - it's not necessary something to do with your husband, but the sample had a mishap, or didn't get to the lab on time (or was even mislabelled, it can happen). He can always ask when he gets there.

Thank you all very much for your answers, it was much appreciated. I particularly like the results which went to Cardiff! Hopefully the lab will have had a mishap in my husband's test too.
