I just had an email from lil pasta, saying she'd woken this morning with horrendous pain in her lower abdomen, and can barely walk....so is headed to the hospital,as she fears it's appendicitis.
Is this likely? I looked at the symptoms, and it seems to usually be a more gradual onset.

Could be many things. I was once admitted with suspected appendicitis, it turned out to be really bad constipation.

I've heard that could be possible,daffy...and also -reading grannygrumps post below-diverticulitis is another possibility.
It could also be ovarian cysts or pelvic infammatory disease. She is doing the best thing by going to the hospital though. I hope it turns out to be constipation for hers and your sake :)
Gone to bed....happy........woke up in "horrendous pain"......doesn't sound like acute appendicitis.

I don't think so either, sqad. But-like daffy says-she's doing the right thing having it checked out.
could be anything and nothing much, but GP or hospital is the best place!
That's exactly how mine started.
Woke up Friday morning with bad pain in right hand side of tummy. Nothing previously. Got worse and worse. Went to GP who sent me to hospital immediately. Kept overnight, pain getting worse. Appendix out Saturday afternoon, appendicitis confirmed. Home Monday afternoon.
