I want to buy some shares and not get involved with large fees or paying for advice etc, just pay a one off fee to buy them and then not hear another word, no e.mails,newsletters and all that. can anyone help.. thanks..

Go to a stockbrokers. They'll buy them for you and for the basic service charge a small commission.

when you say go to a stockbrokers is that online or actually go somewhere..
If there's one in your locality go there. I think they deal on an 'execute only' basis. That's the cheapest.

thanks very much.. here's hoping things improve over next 5yrs and I don't regret it !!
And expect your tax return form to be an even bigger pain than usual when you have to get all the info together at the end of the year.
I wish I'd bought gold Kruggerrands instead of my shares. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Online accounts are cheaper. I use Iwebsharedealing and had no problems. there are plenty of others as well.
