What do you call the crust of the bread at the top and bottom of a loaf? I call them the topper and the bottomer... original. My brother in law calls it the heal??? of the bread. My dad calls it the nobby end? What do you call yours?

The heel
We call it the nob end but my husband who's Irish calls it the heel
Ive only ever referred to it as the crust, but just want to thank you for making me laugh!!!

Rachael i just love it when i find a new word for something as basic as bread!!  I suppose when i think of it i call them the outsiders
I'm Irish and I have always called it the heel.
I always called them outsiders but my husband calls them fatties.

sorry to be boring but i`ve only ever called them crusts.

yep the nobby ends is what we call it,
We just call 'em crusts, but I have heard the term "nob (or knob?) end", and I have a friend who calls it the "Jimmy".
Its not just the irish - I am scottish and all my family call it the heel!
Rach, your brother in law is not Irish, he's an Ulsterman...get it right! lol
