Does anybody know the true meaning of the acronym of ACME, and if so when/where did it originate?

I thought acme was an ancient greek work meaning "the best". Hence its use.
It is 'the best' . The OED says it's from Greek 'akme' meaning 'the highest point' and so in English it is 'the point of perfection' .
Wendy's got the right idea. Before I discovered it was a word I thought it was the leading manufacturer of 'Acme rocket roller boots' and giant 'Elastic bungee/catapult' kind of edge of cliff falling on head kind of animation. Sorry for spoiling the question I was just reminising. Mee Mee!!. 8P)
