BT sockets and broadband

Help. I am going insane. Will try to be concise:

Broadband is interfering with telephone. Filters not working as I would have expected.

Setup: Phone line into house goes to wall socket that has a built in adapter that feeds a line upstairs to extension. On ext. I have a filter to pc and phone. No probs

Downstairs on wall socket, after feed upstairs , socket feeds another built-in phone socket which I have phone connected and sky via sky double adapter

Downstairs, without filter, phone is unusable due to web noise. Wherever I place filter in socket chain, phone loses noise but will not "hang up" as if  phone off the hook. Have removed sky adapter but makes no odds.

So. Cannot use phone downstairs when extension fed upstairs, or disconnect phone downstairs and use broadband.

Can someone come up with a solution? PLEASE.

I had the same problem until eventually a BT engineer visited. He put a new line from the pole to the house. No change. Then put a new line from where the line joins the house, into the house. Then put a new box in. (that has a filter built into it - so no more filters needed). No change. Then he cleared off up the road and came back saying he'd switched our line with a spare one, as it was easier than trying to trace the fault(?). Result. We can use the phone and broadband at the same time, with a hardly noticable tinny sound. I think that's still the internet working, 'cos if the computers are off there is no noise at all. We still can't get faster than 1meg as we are about 5 miles from the exchange (so BT say). It works fine (touch wood) now though.

You are going to hate me for this answer!!

Any chance you could purchase cordless phones and only one base unit sharing the line.

Exactly the same scenario has happened to a friend of mine and after trying every possible set up she bought a 3 handset phone and all is well!
