I have received an e-mail from the Sunday Telegraph stating that the above General Knowledge crossword is void as it is a repeat of a very recent one.

Hi boaw....?Very recent? It was only last week! I trust a) they ate a large slice of humble pie for their boo-boo; and b) they kick their sub-editors rather firmly, for causing mass frustration to the devoted band of wordsmiths who look forward to Sunday mornings. Presume the Cryptic is also a non-runner............

That is a wrong decision by the Sunday Telegraph in my opinion. THOUSANDS enter these competitions and it is a DRAW for the winners so the chances of somebody winning twice running are exactly the same as they would be for any two consecutive weeks. Furthermore the prizes would have been given out if it was not a duplication so why shoud they not be given out anyway? The Sunday Telegraph loses NOTHING by doing so. And finally, there will be MANY HUNDREDS of people who will still send off their entries and who will be quite annoyed at having wasted their postage.

If there is as many as ONE entry for this crossword, the Sunday Telegraph should still award to a prize to this entry. THAT is fairness, simply calling the crossword void because of mistake on their part is NOT.

I did not mean to set off such a response.  It was to save entrants postage etc.  I enjoy the crossword and would not wish to see this blip cause it to end.  Mistakes are made.  Let us look forward to next Sunday.
Fair enough boaw - but two things - the Sunday Telegraph would NEVER stop the GK crossword now - it knows when it is on to a good thing and although I am sure that all that all those that read your original remarks will be grateful for saving them postage, one mistake cannot be made up with by another and that is exactly what the Sunday have done by calling the crossword void.
Great - I've sent mine in already and didn't do it last week...
