Alleged thugs get bail?

Last weekend a man was kicked and beaten to death on Clapham Common, London by two or three thugs. Witnesses saw this and police arrested three men later. Now they may not be guilty of anything, but they were bailed to appear in court later. However, if these people are the guilty ones is it not rather silly to let them roam free to bash others? Would it not have been safer to remand them in custody, given that the police obviously think they have a strong case?

No - I was doing other things.  And I'm busy now.

I'm not ACTUALLY going to play these stupid games with someone so ignorant and insolent. You're a fool for tihnking I would.

Why you think I have time for someone like yuo is beyond me. especially not when you can't manage a better arguement than siolated incidents that you've presumable found by googling "miscarriage of justice" or searching through a highly politicised local paper.  Try looking at the broader picture and not being so narrow minded.

Good day to you.

Apologies for the typos.

PS Hippy, thanks for the stars.  I hope this distraction from the point won't go on much longer.  I think don1 will find someone else to attempt to wind up fairly soon - or of course, she/he might find a decent arguement and then a debate can be had by all of us!  :-)

PPS - Hippy - If hope you're hint is wrong of course, and that this suspected criminals don't commit any other crimes or skip bail.  It's such a tricky call to make - I'd hate to be the one making that sort of decision!

Just curious don1 - what do you do? Have you studied law, studied psychiatry, become a magistrate or anything remotley similar?

Have you ever visited a prison or a young offenders institute?

Should every criminal be put behind bars according to how long you think they should be? Or maybe if the media pickup on the story?

p.s. J-bug - I beleive that Bernardo was not talking about you but Don1 (though I may be wrong)

Vic - I thought as much, but thought I'd play it safe!  :-)
Aimee did nothing to provoke the attack.  If the girls had not attacked her she would ot have had to run.  I blame the three girls for Aimee's death and would have sentenced them accordingly.  Oneyedic, you posting seems to give the impression that it's ok for drunks to attack people as long as they don't mean to kill them.  Surely you can't mean that.  If you attack them and they die YOU are responsible and should be punished accordingly.

haggisdj -oneeyeddic? - gosh very funny and the first time someone has done that. Very clever.

I have posted my reasoning and can't be bothered replying.

I answer what was admittedly addressed to Vic (or dic, depending! :p) with two words:

mens rea
