The cost of the traditional English pint is getting silly. I may have to start drinking wine in my local soon!

In Manchester, Holt's bitter is just over £2 (old family brewery near Strangeways prison)

Samuel Smith's is as little as £1.80 (brewed in Yorkshire in slate squares)

It's easy to get a 50% reduction in price of your ale; just ask for a half a pint.
EE housemouse, reminds me of a joke I heard yesterday, than in the clubs "up north" the police have a problem with people injecting stimulants into their mouths - the process is known as "E by gum".....

Too true, housemouse - I shall be proving that in a couple of hours!

Just remembered, I've got a stack of 35mm negatives I was privileged to shoot in the brewery about 20 years ago when I shot some stuff for a book "Manchester ales and porter" the history of Holt's by Chris Grayling, currently the Employment minister! Must dig them out...

Hi Housemouse, just got back to the computer.

I'm a bitter man, myself, although the mild's OK in halves for a change.

I knew Peter Kershaw, who hated being photographed, so his wife conspired to get him into the office while I was doing photos for the book, and we got a couple of decent shots!

I was left to wander the brewery with my camera, and reckon I must have some pretty rare shots. I'll scan the negs when I have a moment.

If they're any good, you can have copies - buy me a pint in town?
...or drink in the loneliness of your own home. Supermarket's offer cheap brew.
