Hi Ric my boyf took me to Prague last year and we stayed in a gorgeous hotel but it wasnt near the river and you needed a tram to get into the centre

heres the link to see what the hotels  like but im not sure how he booked it, went to the travel agents i think

hope it helps

I stayed in the Hotel Adria in Wenceleslas Sq last weekend and it was very good. About 10 mins walk to the Charles Bridge.
The Leonardo is also very good and closer to the river.
I'm also looking for a hotel in Prague and one of the most useful sites when searching for a hotel anywhere in the world is www.tripadvisor.com.  Holidaymakers post reports and give marks out of 10, very useful if you also want to check on a particular hotel.

Try the hotel Waldstein, close to the Charles Bridge and the river. 5 mins walk, nice pubs round the corner, and some great period rooms.

Look up the 'Ave travel' website, they'll pick you up from the airport.

I am thinking of going as well and have been told to stay near to Wenceslas Square and the Old Town as you will be near all the shops, nightlife etc otherwise it would be a long way to travel back to your hotel at night.  It is probably worth paying a bit more to be local to everything.

Judiewudie, if your looking for stag bars, lap dancing clubs, casino's, all night drinking, loud music, strip joints and loud druken Brits keeping you awake all night, then Wenceslas Square is the place to stay.

Personally, I don't think it represents any part of Prague thats worth visiting.

It's a small, charming city with fantastic architecture, culture (except for the above) and people, choose your hotel with care, and unless your staying well outside the centre, everything is within easy walking distance.
