When we had analogue tv we never used to get much interference but with digital I find the picture is always breaking up or there are blips in the sound on a regular basis - why is this supposed to be so much better?

You probably need an Aerial upgrade.

Oh really. That never crossed my mind. More money, mutter mutter. Thanks Everhelpful
As others have indicated, your aerial isn't good enough. (Digital TV is broadcast on different frequencies to analogue TV. Some aerials can handle those new frequencies well, whereas others can't).

Theoretically you should get an aerial fitter to change both your aerial and the associated cabling, but you will probably get sufficient improvement in signal strength by simply fitting an aerial booster. Asda will sell you a reasonably good one for £9 but, for maximum 'gain', I'd recommend spending slightly more at your local Maplin store (or online):

Thanks very much, Chris.
Is the digital signal coming from the same transmitter? You may need the aerial re-aligned. If that doesn't help then upgrade.
Has your area switched over to full digital broadcasting yet? If they haven't then the transmissions will be at a lower power!
dont bother with an aerial amplifier go for the better and more long term solution,a new aerial and cable it will also be aligned properly
