When the coalition government took over from labour the national debt was £4.8 trillion ..What was the debt when tony blair first came to power and what is the debt now..

That £4.8 trillion figure is only if you include public sector pension liabilities and is not an official debt figure.

It seems the official figure is around £1 trillion.

It seems to me that who is, or was, in political office doesn't make much difference. Not only Britain but many countries are having similar problems. Living on borrowed money and being permanently in debt has become a self destructive culture. The only way out is for countries to become more industrious and productive and 'pay their own way'.
