Hi Lie-in King - I find this crossword so difficult that I really start from the completed grid and work backwards to try and find out how the answers were got to, hoping that one day I will be able to understand how to do it. So I don't know where to ask to for help - I know it sounds stupid but I by doing it this way just one day I may be able to understand it all.

If you put in all the corresponding black squares to those given, then you could try to solve any numbered clues as that will give you some more filled in squares at the end of those clues. Also bear in mind the likely grid layout, to help solve length of other clues.

No problem, I've e-mailed Mitch as a reminder & am pretty sure he'll post the grid by tomorrow, which still leaves you time to send off an entry :-)

I'm not bothered about sending in an entry - I just want to be able to complete this one day - it is now a challenge to me
I am trying to give you a starting point. If it is any interest to you, I consider myself pretty good at crosswords, having had YEARS of practice! but I usually have to sit and look at Barebones/Skeletons etc as they need time to work out.
PS I realise you probably don't trust me as you would LIK. Sorry.
Hi flicrat - I thought it was that BLHC likes to work out how to parse the clues from the answers, more than needing to know how to fill in the grid?

I'm sure it's not a matter of trust! :-)

Hi I trust both of you, I will certainly take on board what you have suggested flicrat. I have filled in the symmetrical blanks but I still have no idea where answer 1 starts and how long the answer is. The clues completely throw me, so by seeing the answers I try and work out how it was got to. I am OK with quick and general knowledge clues but cryptic ones are too much - but I want to try and learn.
Good morning, BLHC - I've checked & Mitch has put the grid up on his site now
