Trying to source one of these and it might help if I know what they are commonly called in the UK.

A new one on me. I can't even imagine what it's supposed to do...... being on the inward face of a door, right next to a regular closer. Do you have any idea?
I've just found a website that might interest you. It looks like a Groom Door Damper, £105.50 from Ironmongery Direct. Try this link:

Some closers do not always close the door tight. This device "snaps" the final close so the door can't be blown ajar by wind etc. Also provides a close seal for draught exclusion and/or sound proofing.

Wel spotted Bookers. So that's what it is :o)
Although, with a decent hydraulic closer right next to it, I can't quite see the point of it. A closer, set up properly, does the job just as well .
^^^^ posted before I saw McMouse's .......... good point, got it :o)
Maybe, The Builder, this is a belt-and-braces approach to automatic door closing.
Question Author
The reason I want this is our flat has a really heavy door, and closes metal to metal with a incredibly loud slam. I've tried using foam to dampen the impace but it still sounds like a safe door closing, especially late at night.

The twin advantages of this device (which I've seen many of in the UK but not so much of here in Spain) is that it a) makes sure the door closes, and quietly, and b) means the door can no longer be slammed shut, even on purpose.

We don't have the other ordinary large latch door closer from the pic, so this would be the only device on our door.....it's just the only one I've seen recently so I took a snap of it.

Thanks all.
