Sinus pain in upper teeth?

My Sister has had ongoing toothache (over the course of a year really). She is in her early 30's. She is going to a private dentist who has extracted 2 back teeth due to constant pain. She has had an infection in these teeth and up in the jaw, which he removed. She was given different types of antibiotics to clear it up. Since having the teeth removed, she still has a constant dull ache in her top back teeth area (even though 2 teeth on one side were removed). The dentist today said there is nothing showing on an x-ray to denote tooth infection, and is totally clueless as to what could be causing constant dull pain, but has advised her to have an MRI scan on her medical insurance as he thinks it could be sinus-related, as the x-ray showed that her sinus cavities were "long?".. She has no headache with it though, just constant dull toothache in upper teeth. She has suffered with blocked stuffy nose and hayfever since childhood. Has anybody else had constant tooth pain without headaches cause by sinuses?

This doesn't sound like a sinus problem and the routine X-ray views indication a "long" sinus is meaningless in medical parlance and I can only assume that your sister misheard him. An MRI scan of the sinuses would not appear appropriate in my opinion but I fear that the next step would be to see a Facio-Maxillary Surgeon.

It is unlikely that the nasal problem is anything to do with her pain.

Is she taking analgesics and if so which one and is it working?

Nurofen has no affect on this constant dull ache all day, but by the end of the day she just wants to scream as it is getting her down.
Nurofen only contains 200mgs of Ibuprofen which is useless. Might i suggest that she gets Ibuprofen 400gms and if this doesn't relieve the pain, then double the dose to 800mgns if necessary.

She has tried stronger doses, makes no difference. The dentist suggested it could be a form of neuralgia. So instead of her having various head/sinus scans he advises she gets an MRI done.
She could try Sinutab and massage Sensodyne Rapid Relief into the offending area.
I suffer from cattarrh and often end up with sinusitis due to it and can experience pain in my upper teeth I sometimes find a nasal spray helps (strange as it may sound) or menthol steam inhalation.
I usually end up with toothache in my top teeth when I have a bad cold - I've always put it down to my sinuses, especially since it goes when the cold clears up.
This sounds just like a problem my sister in law had and she was of a similar age - she suffered for many many months, had numerous dental procedures and painkillers etc. Eventually she was diagnosed with Trigeminal neuroma for which she had surgery, and at long last the problem was sorted.
i havehad similar and on monday i am going for root canal treatment..at GREAT expense as i have to dothis privately...my face sometimes can swell up with infection and have had my gum cut to release the poison..not nice and VERY painful.....Sqad my friend could this have anything to do with my recurring ear infection ???
sorry, meant to say Trigeminal Neuralgia not neuroma
Murraymints... It's very unlikely that your dental problem as anything to do with your recurring ear infection.
Murray....I agree with J9PUR.

I have told you time and time again...GET TO SEE AN ENT SURGEON.

Still love you though ;-)
About two months ago I thought I had a serious tooth problem which turned out to be a sinus infection and a ten day course of antibiotics clearned that up. The pain was really bad.

I hope your sister finds out what is wrong.
