We have a new puppy. what's the best way of teaching her her name? It would be really helpful if she would pay attention, but she's too busy doing puppy stuff to care!

you shouldn't shout at them - a firm admonishment like "bad dog" each time and then even a pat for good behaviour - don't need treats. Dogs want to be one of the family pack and need to know their position - voice is therefore very effective, just as if you were the pack leader dog. By the way, never walk around the dog - get him/her to move, its what the boss dog does and all part of pup learning........

as to any chewing issues, there is a fab product called bittersweet apple which comes as a spray - onto any furniture etc that they get interested in. 99% of dogs HATE the stuff...1% do and then you have a problem...
I have just had a new puppy, a blue merle sheepdog he is 10 weeks hold and every time i speak to him i start with Blue (his Name) . He loves to play with a ball and he will fetch it but how do i get him to drop it
So you are assuming that just because the puppy doesn't come running to you when you call its name it doesn't know its name? have you ever had a puppy before?

Try training your puppy and teaching it basic obedience and forget worrying about it remembering its name.

lol she is very chewy. We haven't had a puppy before. I'm not quite sure what her pack position is yet - i think she'll probbaly be above one of the existing dogs but below the other one. the others are both dogs, and i'm not quite sure they know what to do with girls!

My next dog will be called "Useless"

i wonder whether we should have picked either a one sylable or three sylable name to make a distinction between her and the others!
I just want her to know her name so that she knows im talking to her rather than one of the others
I give up, lol

why ratter, i appreciAte your answers, thanks. It's just much easier to teach obedience when the pupil knows you are talking to them!
