My puppy is 5 months old. She has been acting fine all day and was out earlier playing with a couple of other dogs she normally plays with. I've been with her the whole time she has been outside so don't think she's been stung and I haven't seen her bang in to anything.

I noticed this afternoon that the left side of her nose was a little swollen from just below her eye down to her nostril. It was so slight I thought I might be imagining it. It is now noticeably swollen, she is acting like normal but will not let me touch that side of her face. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort although I'm sure she must be a little bit!

Anyone know what might be causing the swelling and if a trip to the vets is required or just to wait it out??

TIA

Thanks carmalee, will update later

Jules - it was about 8/9pm when I phoned and he used the words "the only thing you might have in the house" so maybe he suggested aspirin as it would have been handy and shops were closed?

Just back from the vets, she has an infection in her nose. He gave her an anti-inflammatory injection and an antibiotic one too...I think she officially hates the vets already!!!

I mentioned I had given her aspirin last night on the emergency vets advice and he seemed suprised!
thanks for the news CAJ1 - and good to know pups sorted - just goes to show hey, different vet, different opinion!

I'm glad she's sorted too, I don't half panic when there's something wrong with her!

I know, I don't think I'll give her aspirin again :-/
Aspirin is fine on the odd occasion, such as if they injure themselves or get a bite to take the pain away, provided you don't give it too often or more than is necessary. A children's aspirin is best but half an adult one (they are usually 300 mg) is fine. What breed is she, sometimes a swollen face can be a symptom of something called 'puppy strangles' (Shelties are particularly susceptible to it).
