double-glazed door won't open...

arghhhhh!

I have a double-glazed exterior door from my kitchen, but it won't open. the lock seems fine, locks and unlocks okay, and I can see all 3 lock thingies are retracting properly. it opens about 1cm, then seems to hit something. I've studied the edges and can't see anything blocking it, so I assume it's shifted on its hinges a bit? maybe??

it's been making a bit of a screeching noise for a long time (only on opening and closing!), from the bottom edge.. I think it's been scraping against its frame.

any ideas please?

solved.. ha ha!!

a screw had come out of the plate where the lock mechanism pops out (sorry, not v technical), and was hanging out of the plate, trapping the door in its frame. I managed to wedge it back enough for the door to open, tightened the screw (and the others that moved) and it's all sorted.

thanks to all for your advice and support in my (latest) crisis! xxx
Hooray, I love a good ending.
Always the simple things isn't it? ............. well done Sara :o)
Everyone loves a happy ending...
I've been watching this thread hoping it would be resolved soon,

Glad sara you've got it sorted, I'll go and make a cuppa now. Anyone else want one?

thanks all :o)

every time I post a "major calamity" it always turns out to be a simple answer, so I look stoopid!

anyway hey, my door opens now ;o)
sara you didnt look stoopid, the "easiest" answers are often the "hardest" Well done for fixing it
Question Author
thank you alexander, at least it wasn't expensive.. as I'd imagined :o)
It certainly would have been if you had called someone out, then you would have looked "Stoopid"!
Question Author
yes, fair point! x
it's been making a bit of a screeching noise for a long time (only on opening and closing!), from the bottom edge.. I think it's been scraping against its frame.

it still needs toe & heeling to stop ^ that, or if there is enough adjustment in the hinges, then adjust them.
Question Author
Mick, I'll see if I can get an end off one of the hinges. I'll probably only make it worse!

but thank you xx
btw, sara........love the update on the AV .................... is that a beard?
Question Author
no!

does it look like a beard??
sorry, sara...... yes. The line around your chin is a bit ...'wobbly'
I still like it ;0)
Question Author
I know it's wobbly, my hands were (and still are) shaking after wielding a heavy hedge trimmer yesterday! and it was difficult enough with the touchpad on the lappy!

I can't be arsed to try to change it now, so don't tell everyone it looks like a beard!
